If smoke alarms are installed properly and maintained, they can play a major role in saving lives during a fire. Once a fire starts, the smoke will move quickly. Working smoke alarms will give you a warning so that you can get outside fast. Once outside, your family should have a special meeting place. When you reach this designated area, DO NOT go back into the house for any reason. According to NFPA, an estimated 3 out of 5 house fire deaths occurred due to no working smoke alarms in the home. Did you also know that a closed door can slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire?
