It is time to escape the indoors and have some fun. That is what Cub Scouts from seven Western North Carolina counties will do at the Shooting Sports Day on Saturday, October 2nd from 10 am to 2 pm on. This event is free to Cub Scouts, their leaders, their parents and those who want to join Cub Scouts.
The first activity for the day will be a fitness/obstacle course where each Cub Scout will test their physical, mental and moral health while also learning about outdoor ethics. In the afternoon, youth will hone their skills on the range which includes learning how to properly and safely fire BB guns, bows and arrows, and sling shots at targets. These activities will allow Scouts to qualify for the Shooting Sports patch and pin.
This event is being conducted by the Falling Waters District of the Daniel Boone Council, BSA. It was originally scheduled for Camp Daniel Boone located near Lake Logan but due to recent flood damage a new location had to be found. That is where the American Legion Post 47 located at 171 Legion Drive in Waynesville stepped in to provide an alternate site. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.
Boys and girls ages 5 to 10 can join Cub Scouts. Youth ages 11 to 17 are eligible to join Scouts BSA, where they participate in more outdoor activities such as camping with their troop. More information is available at danielboonecouncil.org/join. Families in Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties can contact Brian Sullivan at 828-254-6189 orbrian.sullivan@scouting.org with additional questions including what Scouting Pack or Troop would be best for their youth.
