An impromptu vigil to honor the legacy of Charlie Kirk on Friday, Sept. 12 drew a crowd to the Hayesville square.
A popular conservative activist, Kirk was only 31 when he was assassinated while speaking at a college in Utah.
Kirk was a husband and father of two young children.
His death has prompted leaders from Clay County and across the nation to appeal to people of any party to condemn political violence and tone down rhetoric.
Speaker Christian Reagan talked about Kirk’s strong faith, starting Turning Point U.S.A. and the positive influence he had on people throughout the nation, especially young people.
Reagan said it’s wonderful that not only in Hayesville, N.C. but across the nation, people are able to light the candles and celebrate the life of Charlie Kirk.
