The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested former Major Johnny McCoy and former Sgt. Andrew Glass, both formerly with the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, on felony charges stemming from separate, unrelated cases, according to the GBI.
McCoy, who oversaw law enforcement operations, is charged with theft by deception, violation of oath of office and multiple counts of false statements involving alleged discrepancies in official records.
He was fired at the time of his arrest and is being booked into the Union County Detention Center.
In a separate investigation, Glass is charged with theft by conversion, violation of oath of office and false statements after two sheriff’s office firearms were discovered missing. One weapon has been recovered, while the second remains missing. Glass was terminated last week and is being booked into the Towns County Detention Center.
The arrests are the latest developments following a year of turmoil within the department.
Both cases remain under investigation and will be forwarded to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
