Coffee With the Poets and Writers is delighted to welcome back Hayesville resident David A. Westwood, award winning war novelist, whose audience here was one of the largest our group has hosted. He will be speaking at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 14 at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville.
His books are page-turners, as well as offering a great amount of detailed knowledge about the wars, characters and land he describes. Westwood has just released his 18th novel, “Bitternut Creek” a story of love, loss and loyalty set during the first year of the Civil War.
Westwood specializes in historical fiction and his themes tend to be war and how civilians deal with it. One of his books has been awarded the gold star by the Military Writers Society of America, two the silver and one was the MWSA Book of the Month. Between novels he writes short stories and one was recently a finalist for the North Carolina's Doris Betts Prize. “Bitternut Creek” is available on Amazon.
Coffee With the Poets and Writers meets every second Wednesday from March until December 2024 at Moss Memorial Library. The event is free and open to the public. An open mic will follow the presentation. Bring a poem or short prose piece of about three minutes to participate. CWPW is sponsored by North Carolina Writers Network which also includes writers in Towns, Union, Fannin and Rabun Counties in Georgia. For questions contact joanhoward121@gmail.com.
