Local storytellers, musicians and performers take the stage next weekend at the Peacock to celebrate Appalachian performing arts.

The acts range from folk singing to Celtic storytelling and everything in between. Come hear a story about the evolution of religion in the Blue Ridge mountains or about the music and lives of the Cherokee.

Relax to acoustic music from some of the most popular lyricists of our time. It’s sure to be an evening of magic, full of mountain music, stories and more.

An Evening of Appalachian tales takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Peacock Performing Arts Center. Performers include Kanute Rarey, Don Hollifield, Owen Gibson, Pat List and Jonathan Hensley, of Hayesville; Delmer Chilton, of Brasstown, N.C.; Amanda Lawrence and Tom Lawrence, of Blairsville, Ga.; Tom Edwards, of Hiawassee, Ga.; Hannah Sage From, of Dahlonega, Ga.; Mary Ricketson, of Hanging Dog, N.C. and Anne Wheeler, of Mission Dam, N.C.
