Finishing Line Press has published Brenda Kay Ledford's new poetry book, “The Persistent Trillium.” This collection describes the harshness of human nature that results from life's challenging encounters. It is the persistence of the trillium that symbolizes hope for the human spirit.

According to Lorraine Martin Bennett, "Ledford takes her persistent pen and poet's heart from such wrenching topics as Haitian immigrants and child labor to the joyful sounds of Mother Nature in ‘The Music of Maple’ and ‘Leatherwood Falls.’"

Ledford is a retired educator, honor graduate of Hayesville High School and received her Master of Arts in Education from Western Carolina University. She is a member of North Carolina Writer's Network, charter member
of Byron Herbert Reece Society and listed with "North Carolina Literary Trail." Her work has appeared in many journals including "Anthology of Appalachian Writers," Our State magazine, Guidepost magazine, Good Old Days magazine, “57 Old Mountain Press Anthologies’ and many other publications. She has received the Paul Green Multimedia Award 13 times from North Carolina Society of Historians for her books, blogs and collection oral history on Southern Appalachia.
