The highly anticipated annual Madelyn Lea Memorial Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church. Now in its 18th year, the Madelyn Lea Memorial Scholarship has benefited 21 Clay County students since its inception. Inspired by Lea who directed music at Immaculate Heart of Mary and Ledford’s Chapel Churches and taught piano and voice to local students, the endeavor was created in order to keep her musical legacy alive. Once again, talented music director Cody Killian with choral directors Laura Stooksbury and Jeff Bauman have created a show you will not want to miss. The exceptional line-up includes classical, sacred and contemporary music performed by the Madelyn Lea Chorus, soloists and duets. Highly entertaining and supporting a wonderful cause, performers include Dr. Hayes Bunch, director of bands at Young Harris College, Clay County students Stephen and Ian Herrada and Marsha Christy on piano and much more.

The 2024 scholarship recipient, vocalist Grant Hendrix will be featured in the program. Thanks to the generosity of the Edward A. Oberzut estate, Grant was awarded $2,000 towards his tuition at UNC Chapel Hill.

Join us for an extraordinary evening of music. Tickets are $10 and are available at Tiger’s store, IHM after the weekend Masses and BodySense. Anyone wishing to donate to the tax deductible scholarship fund may do so by sending a check written to IHM with Madelyn Lea Scholarship Fund in the memo line to MLSF c/o Donna McAuliffe, 41 Songbird Ridge, Hayesville, N.C. 28904.
