The Madelyn Lea Memorial concert, an annual variety benefit concert with special appeal for music lovers will be held at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., August 12. The endeavor, now in its 19th year, supports an annual scholarship awarded to a Clay County music student. Madelyn, beloved organist and music director at both Immaculate Heart of Mary and Ledford’s Chapel Churches also taught piano and voice to many local students and inspired everyone around her with her vivacious personality and zest for life.
This year’s recipient, Cadence Canup, is the 23rd Clay county student to benefit from the scholarship. In addition to the scholarships, the MLMSF has supported Hayesville Middle School Chorus and Band with donations as well as purchasing a HHS band uniform in 2024. Two scholarships were provided for the children’s music camp at the Peacock Performing Arts Center this year. Community generosity continues to support local music students which would make Madelyn Lea extremely proud.
Join us. The Community Choir, duets and soloists will offer contemporary, classical and sacred music in a highly entertaining program. Talented Music Director Cody Killian with choral directors Laura Stooksbury and Jeff Bauman have created a spectacular program that you won’t want to miss.
Concert tickets are $10. per person and all proceeds support the Madelyn Lea Scholarship Fund. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the following locations: Tiger’s Store in Hayesville, BodySense in Hiawassee and the IHM Gift store after the weekend Masses. For more information, please call (706)-896-6457 or (828)389-3758. Come for an evening of music supporting a worthy cause.
