The fall season of the Mountain Community Chorus promises to be another exciting time as the group welcomes new members as well as those who are regular participants.

Auditions will be held starting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 and rehearsal will begin the same evening at 7 p.m. Both will be held in the basement of The Fine Arts Building at Young Harris College. There is no need for new singers to prepare anything for the audition, however previous choral experience and the ability to read music is helpful.

There is a $20 membership fee that covers the cost of music. Rehearsals are held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings.

Terry Hooper will be returning as the music director. Hooper currently serves as adjunct instructor of voice at Young Harris College, where he teaches voice and music appreciation. He is also minister of music at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville.

The fall concert will take place on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16.

With more than 50 years of singing choral music in the mountain area the chorus continues that tradition as it launches the 2024 fall season. This year the shorter 10 week season will once again feature traditional anthems by Dan Forrest and Elaine Hagenberg. The choral program always includes a spiritual and " Witness" by Jack Halloran will delight the listener with its energy, power and story-line. A work by Mozart will round out the program and several Christmas works will usher in the season including a beautiful selection by John Rutter. There is always a surprise selection from a musical theatre production and this season will also include an arrangement of Hoagy Carmichael's "Georgia On My Mind."

The Chorus provides an artistic outlet for choral performers in the mountain communities of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Many chorus members drive an hour or more to participate in this longstanding and well respected group.

Join this vibrant community choir for another great season of music as it delights us with beautiful sounds of the season.
