Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone… three different styles; three pioneering women in jazz. Each brought an emotional intensity to every phrase they sang.
Join us as international recording artist, vocalist and cellist Shana Tucker and the Christian Tamburr Trio — Christian Tamburr on piano, Matthew Rybicki on bass, Kobie Watkins on drums — take us on a journey through the music and lives of these icons. With Tucker hailing from Durham, N.C. and Tamburr from Atlanta, Ga. this is a unique opportunity to see big-city talent in an intimate mountain theater.
The Legacy of Jazz series returns to The Peacock at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15. The previous installment, which focused on the music and life of Nat King Cole, had many audience members remarking that these were some of the best musicians they had ever seen live.
Touted by JazzTimes Magazine as “a jazz talent, whose imprint and vitality has already been quite visible.” Tucker’s style and sound have been described as a curious mash-up of Joni Mitchell, Dianne Reeves, Ella Fitzgerald and Tracy Chapman, with an efficient complexity of songwriting reminiscent of Bill Withers.
