Partnership supports local theater

HHI Board members have considered the Peacock Performing Arts Center a valuable partner for promotion and economic vitality for downtown Hayesville since 2013 with the town’s designation into the N. C. Department of Commerce Small Town Main Street program.

An important part of the program is to support other nonprofit organizations through fundraising efforts and partnerships related to specific community projects. Earlier partner projects include HHI funds designated for the Historic Courthouse to become Beal Center and needed repairs to the Old Jail Museum along with added support to various community groups.

The annual HHI Trash to Treasure event has been successful for more than 10 years to support additional local community efforts so the decision to use a portion of 2024 proceeds to support the Peacock was easy and unanimous by board members.

Constructed in the 1980s, the Peacock theater has become an integral part of Clay County and the surrounding area as well as a destination point for visitors and residents to enjoy a variety of performing arts in downtown Hayesville. Upgrades to the building restrooms and other repairs will be expensive so HHI hopes additional community support will follow to help acquire grant money or other contributions.

The Peacock Board of Directors, staff and volunteers have expressed their gratitude to HHI for their support.

HHI appreciates the downtown space provided by the Lance family as the store location, all donations of items that made the Trash to Treasure sale very successful and “special thanks” to those who supported the event and the volunteers who made shopping easy for all.
