Veteran Richard Haigler honored with Quilt of Valor

Marine Corps Veteran Richard Harold Haigler was honored with a Quilt of Valor at his home by the Georgia Valor Foundation. It was an honor both Haigler and his wife, Willene of 59 years were very grateful for.

Haigler joined the U.S. Marines at age 17 serving from July 1960 through 1964 on active duty. He continued serving in the Reserves for the next two years after his four years of military service.

Haigler’s first two years was spent in Newfoundland, Canada with a top secret clearance; he was also caught up in the Cuba Crises in Oct. 1962. During his service Haigler served as military police on Vieques Island in Puerto Rico and was there when President Kennedy was killed. One of his duties during this time was raising the U.S. Flag to half mast for the month following Kennedy’s death.
