The great galloping gals of Hayesville extended their win streak to eight games with a total team effort that avenged two early season losses to private schools.
Hayesville didn’t just get revenge, the Gold-and-Black, valuable metals precede colors when your record is 13-6, scuttled the schools responsible for defeating the Lady Yellow Jackets in early December.
“Our main focus was they beat us last time and we wanted to redeem from that with a win,” Hayesville Coach Tammy Dills said.
Last Tuesday, Dills’ improved cagers bested Summit Charter, 28-21 – a 16-point swing from the Bears’ 46-37 win on Dec. 10.
Wednesday’s revenge match was even more emphatic. The Lady Jackets spanked Highlands, 45-31 – a 23-point swing from the loss on the Highlanders’ hardwood on Dec. 5.

Hayesville turned the tables by getting busy on the glass.
“We controlled the boards and didn’t allow put backs from each of those teams and that helped our team run a fast break offense,” Dills said. “We out rebounded both teams.”
Rebounding was especially crucial since Summit Charter used a stall offense.
“They tried to take our offensive game away and make us take quick shots to allow them to stall and make us make mistakes to allow them to score,” Coach Dills said. “Fortunately, we did what we needed to not allow that.”
What the Lady Jackets needed to do was play defense. They did. The galloping girls held their guests to four points in the first quarter and a mere three in the second.
Offensively, Micalynn McClure led the parade with eight points. Ava Shook followed with six; Lucy Trout, five and Jasmine Brooks, three. Hayesville had two apiece from Briley Clampitt, Aaliyah Jackson and Caroline Wade.

The Lady Jackets controlled the game from the start and Trout made sure the Highlanders remained in the rear view mirror.
Trout smoked the Highlanders with 18 points, including four three-pointers.
“Lucy had an exceptional night,” Dills said.
Trout’s offensive prowess helped Hayesville to quarter leads of 17-5, 23-8 and 38-17.
Shook also gave the visitors trouble. She tallied 14 points, including a pair of triples, and canned 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Clampitt added five; McClure , four; Ava Moore, three and Jasmine Brooks, one.
