Hayesville’s varsity boys hope to extend the honeymoon after a blissful start to the season in which the Yellow Jackets outscored four foes by an average of 30 points a game.
Mike Cottrell’s basketballers carried a 4-0 record into this week after trouncing Summit Charter on Wednesday and Nantahala on Friday.
Hayesville 56, Summit Charter 24
Brady Reynolds scored 13 points to lead the Yellow Jackets in his senior season debut after missing two games with an injured toe.
Hayesville went up 16-8 in the first quarter and then roasted Summit by outscoring the hosts 33-8 in the middle quarters.
Daemien Soto added 11
points, Brendan Lynch 10, Micah Moss 6, E.J. Abrams 5, Landon Trout 5, Kyle Shaheen 3 and Jackson Sellers 2.
Hayesville 70, Nantahala 50
Reynolds was even hotter at Nantahala. “Bombadier Brady” rifled home four three-pointers, nailed 4-of-5 free throws, and tallied 12 points in the second quarter on the way to finishing with 28.
The Yellow Jackets’ season-high output included a career-high 14 from Abrams, who busted three triples and swished 3-of-3 from the line.
The balanced attack was aided by 8 points apiece from Shaheen and Soto.
Sellers added 5 points, Moss 3, Lynch 2 and Trout 2.
Hayesville led 14-9 after one quarter before clipping the Eagles wings with a 24-point second quarter that resulted in a 38-17 halftime advantage.
The Jackets maintained their lead with 8-of-11 free throw shooting.
