The No. 20-ranked Young Harris College men's soccer team scored twice in the second half as the Mountain Lions shut out No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne University 2-0 Wednesday (Sept. 15) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-0-0 and will open up Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Sept. 18) at 1 p.m. in St. Augustine, Florida, against Flagler College. The Bears slipped to 1-1-0.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 67:12 mark. Mikkel Goling fed the ball to Saad Maziane, who headed the ball to Pato Padilla. Padilla chipped the ball over the head of the charging Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper into the upper right corner of the next. It was Padilla's first goal of 2021.
- Less than four minutes later, the Mountain Lions added an insurance goal. A Lenoir-Rhyne defender tried to clear the ball out of the back and it landed at Mazaine's feet. Maziane scored his fourth goal of the season when he deposited it into the lett corner of the net.
- Lenoir-Rhyne had a chance to get a goal back in the 76th minute when Harry Rowe's shot was cleared off the back line by Federico Guitierrez to preserve the shutout.
- YHC held a 9-5 edge on shots, including a 4-3 margin on goal.
- The Bears corralled six corner kicks to the four for Young Harris.
- YHC goalkeeper Eduardo D'Avino stopped two shots to record his second shutout of the year.
- The Mountain Lions lead the all-time series with the Bears 3-1-0.
