E.J. Abrams burned Robbinsville for 17 points in three quarters work but the Black Knights rallied in the final minutes to steal a 43-39 decision over the visiting Yellow Jackets.
“We played very flat and unorganized at Robbinsville. That’s my fault for giving them too much time off at Christmas,” Hayesville Coach Zach Cottrell said.
The Yellow Jackets played well enough to win, especially in the second half — until the final minute.
“I thought we played better in the second half,” Cottrell said. “It can be very difficult to win a game in this conference on the road when you allow the home team to get the momentum in the first half.”
Abrams’ 17 included three three-pointers and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line before he dressed for the varsity game.
Brady Reynolds contributed 8 points. Landon Trout and Damien Soto had four apiece. Brendan Lynch added 3 points. Peyton McGaha also tallied 3.
