E.J. Abrams was one of Hayesville’s best blockers on the football field, but there was no way to block the determined dynamo with mash-the-accelerator determination on the basketball court Monday night.
Abrams lit up Hiwassee Dam for 32 points with bold drives to the hoop and a half dozen three-point bombs as Hayesville’s JV Yellow Jackets dismantled the visitors, 61-21.
Abrams wasn’t the only sharpshooter.
“I was pleased. We shot the ball pretty well,” Coach Zach Cottrell said.
Brady Reynolds added 10 points, Peyton Mcgaha tossed in 8 and Daemien Soto scored 6, Landon Trout had 3.
“I thought they played hard. We came out pressing. They got the message and went after them,” Cottrell said.
Hayesville’s next opportunity to “get after them” will be Friday, Dec. 8 at Franklin.
“That will be a good test for us. We’ll see if we got better because they whipped us over here at the scrimmage,” Cottrell said. “We have a lot of work to do.”
