Due to COVID regulations, a limited number of fans have been able to attend the JV Yellow Jacket basketball games, but those who have been able to enter the gyms and fans watching at home have to like what they've seen.
Hayesville's opening act has mimicked the main event with a fast-paced, high-powered offense. That led the team to a 44-32 win over Cherokee on Tuesday, Jan.19 and a 48-27 victory Friday, Jan. 22 at Rosman.
In The Hive against Cherokee, the Jackets found themselves in a battle from the opening possession. The Braves hit double-digits in the first quarter with 10 points, but an even dozen gave Hayesville an early lead. The second quarter saw the Jackets match their offensive output while clamping down slightly on their opponent, giving the home team a 24-18 lead at the half. Hayesville totally took over in the third quarter with an 11-3 run and managed to hold off a fourth quarter rally to down the Braves 44-32.
The long bus ride to Rosman on Friday must have given the Jackets plenty of time to get motivated because when the game started, they were firing on all cylinders. Hayesville put up 19 points in the first quarter and by halftime they led 34-11. The second half was smooth sailing and the Jackets added a win to their record by the final of 48-27.
On Friday, Jan. 29 the team will head to Hiwassee Dam for a 5 p.m. contest against the Eagles. Robbinsville will pay the Jackets a visit Tuesday, Feb. 2. That game is also scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
