It was a rare one-game week for the JV Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team. Since Rosman does not have a JV girls team this season, Hayesville’s team had to wait until Swain County visited The Hive on Friday, Dec.13 to take the court. Both teams struggled offensively but the Lady Jackets put enough numbers on the board to get the 35-23.
Both teams struggled to get shots to fall in the first quarter. Defense proved to be the key to grabbing the early momentum. Hayesville managed to bucket 6 points in the first quarter while limiting Swain to 3. Quarter number two was a carbon copy of the the first with the Lady Jackets matching their 6 points and Swain duplicating their 3 to make the haltime score 12-6.
Both teams found their scoring rhythm in the third quarter with a total 0f 24 points scored. Hayesville accounted for 14 of those and the Lady Devils had 10 in the quarter to give the Lady Jackets a 26-16 lead into the fourth quarter. While scoring remained low, Hayesville was able to win the final stanza 9-6 to clinch the 35-23 win.
A big challenge stands in front of the Lady Jacket squad in the form of the Murphy Lady Bulldogs. Hayesville will make the short drive to Murphy Thursday, Dec. 19. A home game will follow Friday, Dec. 20 when the Lady Jackets will host Robbinsville. Fans can expect a 4 p.m. start for both games.
