The Blairsville Cruisers Car Club kicked off the Fourth of July weekend with a huge event at the Union County Farmers Market on Saturday. More than 100 hot rods, classics, customs and antique cars and trucks registered for this event. A great variety of vehicles added to the enjoyment.

The “Best Original” trophy was presented to Rob Compton of Hiawassee for his 1940 LaSalle Sedan and the “Best Engine” trophy went to Doug Brassel of Blairsville for his 1967 Plymouth GTX. “Class Winner”  plaques went to John Hollier of Blairsville for his 1988 Corvette and to Frank Capozzi of Brasstown for his 1965 Chevy C-10 Pickup. “Club Choice” trophies were won by Alice Stanley of Murphy for her 1957 triumph TR3 and by Bill Henry of St. Cloud, Fla. for his 1965 Ford Cobra.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Becky Morris. The $50 cash door prizes for registered vehicles went to Doug Anderson of Blairsville and Donna Howell of Young Harris. Both Anderson and Howell contributed some of their winnings to the club for the needy children Christmas program.

Raffle tickets sold at a brisk pace as everyone wants to win the beautiful red Mustang convertible. These ticket donations help our local needy children during the Christmas season.

Raffle tickets are available at Tanner Towing, Pinnacle Bank and United Community Bank in Blairsville. The Mustang will be displayed and tickets sold at the Butternut Creek Festival in Meek’s Park July 16 - 17. The Mustang will also be on display and tickets will be available on Sundays at the Memory Lane Classic Car Museum in Young Harris.
