Too many whiffs and not enough hits spelled double trouble for Hayesville’s girls softball team last week.

Hiwassee Dam pitchers allowed just three hits as the Eagles handily swept Hayesville, 16-3 on Tuesday and 11-1 on Friday.

Lily Chastain led Hayesville (1-4) with two runs, a hit and an RBI in the first game. Mallory Peck had the Lady Jackets only other hit. She also drove in a run.

Kara Bauer also scored the other run. Lillie McClure added an RBI.

Fabulous freshman Micalynn McClure’s pitching was hampered by four errors that allowed Hiwassee Dam to score 12 unearned runs.

Hayesville fielded better, just 2 errors, in the rematch, but notched just one hit. It was, however, a doozy. Micalynn, .533 on the year, broke up a no-hitter by slamming the ball to the left field fence and motoring into third base with a triple to lead off the fifth and final frame.

Double M didn’t stay there very long. The next batter, Taylor, cracked an RBI grounder that she nearly beat out. The next two batters — Peck and Lillie McClure — also connected, but the Eagles handled both chances.

Defensively, shortstop Taylor had four assists and two putouts without an error. Center fielder Daylyn Murray had two catches without a mishap.
