A disastrous second quarter doomed Hayesville’s home-standing JV boys basketball team to a 52-23 defeat at the hands of Franklin last Thursday.

A basket by Kabe Shaheen accounted for the Yellow Jackets only points in the second as Hayesville was an uncharacteristic 0-of-6 at the free throw and Franklin scooted to a 27-8 halftime lead.

Hayesville was 3-for-4 from the line in the second half but couldn’t gain ground on the speedy Panthers. The Jackets were hampered by 23 turnovers – another uncharacteristic statistic.

“Frankilin is a good team. We struggled against their pressure and physicality early but got going a little bit in the second half,” Hayesville Coach Josh Cottrell stated. “It’s good to play teams like that before we get into this conference stretch.”

Shaheen, the only Jacket to score in all four quarters, had a team-high 11 points.

Micah Moss and Damien Soto had 4 points apiece. Carter Whitfield and Donivin Soto each had 2 points
