Young Harris College men's soccer player Federico Guitierrez has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Defender of the Week ending Sept. 5.
Guitierrez led the Mountain Lions to a suffocating defensive effort in a 6-0 shutout win over Emmanuel (Ga.) College. The senior from Montevideo, Uruguay, played all 90 minutes as Young Harris limited Emmanuel to just one shot, none on goal. He also scored the fifth goal for the Mountain Lions, taking three shots in the game. Young Harris was the only PBC team to not surrender a goal during opening weekend.
The 20th-ranked Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (Sept. 8) when they host Lincoln Memorial University at 5 p.m. at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
