On Wednesday, March 5 the Hayesville High School girls' soccer team played Highlands at home. This was the girls' first game of the season and started out rough. The weather was not ideal for a game as it was freezing rain and the wind was blowing. During the first half of the game, the Hayesville girls started well.
Summer Borchardt scored a goal in her first game as a freshman. Goalie Emily Dowling had seven saves. Emily Aguilera Garcia and Emma Elver both had a steal and Leah Thomas had two steals. The score at halftime was 3-1 with Highlands taking the lead.
During the second half, the game got more difficult for the Yellow Jackets. Coach Kelly Davis said, “The Yellow Jackets started strong, but the weather and lack of extra subs quickly took its toll on the team.” The final score of the game was 10-1 in Highland's favor.
This is the first game of the season so there is room for improvement.
