The Hayesville Middle School Yellow Jackets traveled to Cherokee Middle School on Tuesday, April 2 to face the Braves. It was a tough outing for the Jackets in a tight game until the end. The final score for the Jackets was 8-6.
The Jackets got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jack Bethel earned an RBI grounding out which allowed a run to score. Tucker Moore then came up to bat with a single, scoring 2 runs. Caden McClure started on the hill for the Jackets allowing four hits and three runs over one inning. Matthew Peck came in for two innings, allowing no hits, striking out three and walking two.
It was a quick turnaround for the HMS Jackets as they welcomed the Braves to the home field on Thursday, April 4. Henry Wadsworth had quite a game as he drove in 4 runs for the Jackets. Wadsworth singled twice in the second inning scoring 2 and singled in the fifth inning, scoring 2. The Yellow Jackets secured the win as they scored no runs in the second inning. Peck was on the mound as the starting pitcher, allowing one hit and three runs, striking out eight and walking one over three and two-thirds innings. The final score was 15-4, making the Jackets' record 5-1 for the year so far.
The Jackets will face the Murphy Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 16 and then travel to Murphy on Friday, April 19. Game times are at 4 p.m. Come out and support this team.
