The Hayesville High School Yellow Jacket wrestling team is off to a great start this season. Last week they had two team-against-team matches where they took the victory in both.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3 Hthe Jackets wrestled against Andrews at home taking the win with a score of 72-3. There were a total of 14 matches. Six of those matches were forfeits on Andrew's side which are worth 6 team points. This is where 36 of the team's points come from. The other points come from six pins for Hayesville which is another 6 team points each resulting in another 36.
Hayesville had another match against Cherokee on Friday which they won 39-37.
The highlight of this match was that female athletes Maddie Graves and Amelia Manning earned their first-ever career wins. This leaves the Jackets with a record of 5-1 as they head full force into their season with their new head coach Colby White and assistant coach Andrew Reynolds.
As the season goes on we can only expect them to get better.
