Hayesville made free throws and Swain missed them.

That was the storyline when the JV Lady Jackets basketball team came from behind to clip Swain, 27-24, Friday in Bryson City.

JV Jackets Micalynn McClure and Ava Moore made 7-of-8 free throws during the fourth quarter, while Swain went 0-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Throw in a 3-pointer by Danielle Anderson and, viola, Hayesville went from trailing 20-17 after three quarters to a thrilling victory.

“The girls never gave up and rallied together at the end to pull off the win in the last few minutes of the game,” JV Coach Meghan Taylor stated.

Moore led Hayesville’s balanced attack with 9 points. Anderson and Aaliyah Jackson scored 5 points apiece. McClure and Kara Bauer had 4 points each.

The JV ladies hope to be 4-0 after playing at Cherokee on Tuesday and hosting Towns County on Saturday.

Taylor is optimistic.

“Even from our first game to this one, there was so much growth,” Taylor said. “I can’t wait to see how we continue to grow together as a team over the rest of the season.”
