Runners representing Hayesville High School traveled to Bryson City Saturday, Oct. 23 to compete in the Smoky Mountain Conference championship. A small roster of athletes kept the Yellow Jackets from competing for a conference title, but the black and Vegas gold brigade showed a lot of heart. Out of the 11 Hayesville runners who competed, six of them finished inside the top 20.
Girls individual results:
Lila Roberts: 10th place, 23:29.52.
Lilliani Denton: 15th place, 26:25.42.
Riley Denton: 20th place, 31:29.84.
Angelina Denton: 21st place, 32:26.95.
Boys individual results:
Landon Hughes: 15th place, 19:14.49.
Cannon Brewer: 18th place, 19:34.83.
Luke Lee: 20th, 19:43.71.
Zachary Townsend: 23rd, 20:12.87.
Cooper Matheson: 35th place, 22:48.17.
Caden Gordon: 37th place, 23:03.08.
Luke Ledford: 42nd place, 24.35.41.
On Saturday, Oct. 30, runners returned to Bryson City for the 1A West Regional cross country meet. Hughes’ 17th place finish was the best by any Hayesville athlete while Roberts’ 47th place finish was tops for the Lady Jackets.
