The Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball teams from Hayesville High had a great week, picking up four wins. Things got started with a 3-0 victory for the varsity squad over Andrews Tuesday, Sept. 17. On Thursday, Sept. 19 the JV and varsity teams got wins over Cherokee with JV winning 2-0 and varsity sweeping the Lady Braves 3-0. On Monday, the Lady Jackets hosted Nantahala for a varsity-only match-up. Hayesville added to the win column with a 3-0 victory.
At home against Andrews, the varsity team was the only HHS representative on the floor.
The Lady Jackets set the tone early with a 25-12 set-one win. Hayesville ended the second set quickly by the final of 25-14. Andrews tried to prevent the inevitable in the third set but the Lady Jackets sealed the match victory with a 25-21 set-win.
The JV squad made the trip to Cherokee worth their time. Hayesville came out strong but found themselves in a dog fight in the first set. The Lady Jackets managed to hold off a Lady Brave rally to go up 1-0 in the match with a 25-22 set-win. Set two looked totally different as Hayesville cruised to a 25-6 win to take the match. The varsity Lady Jackets followed the JV team’s example, sweeping Cherokee 25-15, 25-18 and 25-20.
Against Nantahala, Hayesville’s varsity squad barely broke a sweat. The Lady Jackets won the first set 25-8 and followed that up with a 25-6 victory in set two. Not surprisingly, the scoreboard was again lopsided in the third set with Hayesville getting the 25-12 win.
The Hive will be buzzing Thursday, Sept. 26 when Hayesville hosts their main rival, the Lady Bulldogs of Murphy. High school action starts at 5 p.m. with the JV match and varsity will follow.
