Blowing in like an autumn wind, basketball season has arrived to Clay County. In their latest quest for a hoops win, the teams from Hayesville Middle School traveled to Robinsville Monday, Nov. 15. The event ended with mixed results as the Lady Yellow Jackets picked up the “W” while the Yellow Jackets lost a close one.

In the first game of the evening, the Lady Jackets hit the court looking to down the Smoky Mountain Conference opponent. Hayesville’s offensive performance was not record breaking, but a strong defense helped the Lady Jackets keep control of the game. By the time the game had reached the halftime mark, Hayesville had built a 13-4 lead.

The second half followed the trends of the first with the Lady Jackets finding the bottom of the basket while limiting successful shots from Robbinsville. When the final horn sounded, head coach Tammy Dills and her team were the proud owners of a 30-12 win.

It was then time for Hayesville’s boys team to go to battle. Early on, Robbinsville was able to get a loose grip on momentum. Although the Knights were able to pull ahead, Hayesville managed to stay close and trailed 18-12 at the half.

The Jackets were even more productive on offense in the second half. Hayesville was able to more than double the first-half points, but unfortunately, the late charge wasn’t enough. Robbinsville held off the rally attempt to get the 33-26 victory.
