It was a winning week for both HMS basketball teams. Following the Lady Jackets win against Andrews it was the boys turn to face the Wildcats which would turn out to be another tight game.
After a short lead in the first quarter the Wildcats would take over the lead and end the first quarter ahead 15-6. The second quarter, however, the Jackets would fight back and head into half time just behind Andrews 18-16. Andrews would widen their lead half way through the third quarter by 4 points with the Jackets fighting to take the lead. With seconds left in the third, score 27-26, No. 10, Kabe Shaheen, sinks a 3 point buzzer beater to take the lead over the Wildcats. From there, Andrews would start the fourth quarter tying the Jackets, only to be short lived. The Jackets would score 2 to again take the lead and take home their first victory of the week, final score 38-47.
Thursday’s game would prove to be another tight game against the Swain Maroon Devils. Swain started the first quarter ahead with the Jackets ending it with the lead, 6-9. Heading into half time the Jackets gained a sizable lead against the Devils, 8-20. The fourth quarter Swain would fight their way back making it a tight scoring game 22-28 with the Jackets still ahead. Tensions would be high in the last 2 minutes of the game with Swain still trailing by 6 points and trying to regain possession of the lead. The Jackets would maintain and hold their lead all the way to victory with their second win of the week.
