The Hayesville Middle School Lady Jackets faced a tough Andrews team on Wednesday, March 13, but came up short with a 6-4 loss.
The Lady Jackets had a hard time offensively as they faced an experienced Andrews pitcher. Andrews started the game by getting a 3-0 jump on the Lady Jackets. The Lady Jackets scored in the bottom of the second when Candance King and Bree Wade both got walks that led to King stealing home that made the score 3-1. The Lady jackets continued to battle back and never gave up.
In the bottom of the fourth Caroline Wade started by getting on base with a confidence boosting triple. Joining her getting on base by being walked was Richyah Jackson and King. Kara Bauer drove in runs with a single. This led the score to become 6-4. In the bottom of the fifth Micalynn McClure came up big with a hard hit triple but came up short and was tagged out when trying to steal home on a passed ball.
Caroline Wade, McClure and Kara Bauer led the team with the only hits of the game. While Bree Wade, King and Jackson contributed to the team by being patient at the plate and getting on base with walks. McClure was on the mound for the Lady Jackets and allowed only four hits and struck out five batters.
This HMS Lady Jacket team has great potential to be successful this year in a competitive conference. The next few games are as follows: HMS at Andrews April 15; HMS at Swain April 19; HMS vs Franklin April 20; and HMS vs. Swain April 21. Games start at 4 p.m. Come out to cheer on the HMS Lady Jackets.
