Hayesville Middle School Lady Jackets basketball team began the week hosting the Andrews Wildcats for an intense, exciting game.
The Lady Jackets held the lead through the first half of the game, going into half time ahead by 4, 11-16. With the start of the third quarter the Wildcats began pressuring the Lady Jackets, quickly closing the gap and tying the game half way through the third quarter.
The two teams traded shot for shot keeping the score tied at multiple times in the game. Hayesville’s Caroline Wade broke the tie with 2 minutes left in the third to put the Lady Jackets back ahead, 20-18. At the end of the third the Lady Jackets had expanded their lead 20-23. That lead was short lived after a 3 pointer from the Lady Wildcats again, tying the score 23-23. With less than a minute and a half left in the game the Lady Jackets yet again tied with the Lady Wildcats 27-27 when MiCalynn McClure shot the game winning and tie breaking goal to give the Lady Jackets their first victory of the week. Final score 27-29.
Kara Bauer led the team in points scored with 10, followed by Lucy Trout with 9 and MiCalynn McClure with 8. The Lady Jackets ended the week winning another home court victory this time against the Swain Maroon Devils, 30-18. The Lady Jackets took charge immediately and held a sizeable lead against the Devils to the end. Wade led the team in points with 14 and MiCalynn McClure in second with 9.
