HMS rebounds with big win over Murphy

Hayesville’s Middle School Lady Jackets faced a disappointing 12-5 defeat against the Murphy Lady Bulldogs in a home conference game on Monday, May 2. Despite some outstanding plays by the Lady Jackets, they just couldn’t get ahead of the Lady Bulldogs.

In the first inning the Lady Jackets only trailed by 2 runs and the score stood at 5-3. During the second inning Hayesville bounced back scoring 2 runs while holding the Lady Dogs back to one, leaving Murphy in the lead by only 1 run, 6-5.

After the second inning things changed. Murphy took over the runs adding 6 and sealing the win 12-5. Callie Long was high scorer for the Lady Jackets with 2 runs; Bryleigh Krieger, Jasmine Brooks and Briley Clampitt added 1 run each.

No rest for the middle school Lady Jackets, on May 5, Hayesville girls team had a rematch game against the Bulldogs and the tides turned. Whatever the Lady Bulldogs had in the previous game appeared over matched when Hayesville turned on their playing power and outscored Murphy 10-4 for the conference victory.

Murphy took the lead early on with 3 runs in the first two innings. During the third inning Hayesville ladies strutted their stuff bringing in 3 runs and holding the Bulldogs back to one additional run. The Lady Bulldogs still held a 1 run lead at the end of the third, but the Jackets were bring it up for a turn over game.

Hayesville ladies granted the Lady Bulldogs 1 additional run the remainder of the game, while coming in close contact with home plate and adding 7 runs in the final innings of the game. The Lady Jackets were in celebration mode after the conference win over Murphy.

Scoring runs for the Jackets were: McClure, 1 run; Long, 1 run; Krieger, 3 runs; Brooks, 2 runs; Clampitt, 1 run and Anderson, 2 runs.

On April 22 the middle school Lady Jackets traveled to Hiwassee Dam to take on the Eagles but fell short the win 5-0. The Jackets struck out four Eagles during the game.

Earlier, Hayesville traveled to Franklin on Wednesday, April 27 falling short another win to the Panthers 11-1. The Panthers took over the lead in the first inning scoring 5 runs while holding the Jackets back from home plate. Hayesville bounced back in the second inning with a run by Jacket Lillie McClure. The Panthers also scored 1 run during the second inning giving them a 6-1 lead. It was the Panthers' game for the rest of the contest. Franklin added 5 runs to take the win over the middle school Lady Jackets.
