Spring and softballs are in the air in Hayesville. The Hayesville Middle School Lady Yellow Jacket softball team opened their season Tuesday, March 9 against Swain County. Power pitching from the Lady Devils shut down Hayesville’s offense and Swain won 16-0.
On Friday, March 12 the black and Vegas gold brigade hosted Martins Creek. The Lady Jackets looked much better, scoring 17 runs to Martins Creek’s two in the winning effort. In the bottom of the third inning, Bryleigh Krieger brought Hayesville fans to their feet with a solo homerun.
Jasmine Brooks used a bunt to get on base in the same inning and was able to work her way around to score. Ava More , Breanna Abrams, Callie Long and Mallory Peck all had multiple hits in the contest. From the pitching circle, Peck struck out four batters.
The Lady Jackets will host a double-header against Copper Basin at 4 p.m. Friday, March 19. Hayesville will travel to Murphy Tuesday, March 23 to face the Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Per North Carolina COVID-19 regulations, fans are permitted to attend games, must wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.
