After a hard previous week against two tough teams the Hayesville Middle School Jackets were ready for a victory. HMS boys competed against Hiwassee Dam Ranger in both games this week.
Landon Cheeks started on the mound for the Jackets on Tuesday, April 4 only allowing HDR one run. Cheeks had a great show out on the mound. He pitched the whole game for the Jackets and kept HDR from scoring no more than two runs.
Not only was the pitching game excellent but the bats were hot as well. Micah Moss hit the first single of the game, scoring the first two runs of the game. In the second inning every player in the batting order for the Jackets came across home plate. The Jackets earned the victory with a final score of 17-2. Cheeks had seven strike-outs, two hits and three walks.
The Jackets were back in action on Thursday at home. Moss started on the mound only allowing one run for HDR. While Moss was settling in, the Jackets were ready to roll on offense. Rhett Sellers was able to get on base with Brady Reynolds and Robbie Barter both hitting singles to left field.
With bases loaded Cheeks comes up to the plate and hits a 2-run single to right field. During the game Cheeks and Daemien Soto both hit two doubles to increase the lead for the Jackets. Not only was the batting excellent but we also got to see some new pitchers take command of the mound.
Jacob Cody took charge of the mound not allowing any runs by HDR. Rookie and first time to ever pitch, Hunter Hill took over Cody’s role and did an awesome job. Watch out for this guy in the future, he is a great ball player. To wrap up the series, Barter took the mound and closed out the game. The Jackets won the game 17-6. Moss pitched two strikes, zero hits and five walks. Cody pitched two strikes, zero hits and one walk, Hill pitched zero strikes, one hit and four walks. Barter pitched two strikes, zero hits and three walks.
The Hayesville Middle School Jackets have a week off due to spring break this week but start things back up at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21 with an away game at Cherokee. April 25 the Jackets take on Murphy.
