Hayesville Middle School boy’s basketball team hit the road Thursday, Nov.7 for their second game of the season. The Yellow Jackets survived a scare in their season-opener with a 3 point win over Andrews but could not defend the offensive attack of Hiwassee Dam/Ranger to improve their win-record. Hayesville was able to put up solid numbers but lost the game 57-45.
Things were close in the opening quarter as both teams were able to run the floor for scores. Hiwassee Dam/Ranger was able to get the advantage and by the end of the quarter had a 12-8 lead.
Quarter number two saw the Yellow Jackets claw their way back. Hiwassee Dam/Ranger was able to match their point total from the first quarter but Hayesville doubled their score to tie things up at 24-24 for halftime.
The third quarter would prove to be detrimental for the Jackets. While HDR had their best quarter of the game, Hayesville had the worst. The home team lit up the net for 17 points and held the Jackets to just 7 to put Hayesville in a 41-31 hole with one quarter to play.
With a few adjustments, Hayesville was able to get back into a scoring rhythm in the fourth quarter. Even with 14 points, the Jackets were unable to cut into the lead. In fact, HDR was able to increase their lead with 16 points to seal the 57-45 win.
The Murphy Bulldogs now stand between Hayesville and a return to the win column. The Jackets will host their chief rival Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.
