Hayesville’s track and field teams did more than hold their own in a 15-school meet track meet at Swain County High School last Tuesday.
Several Yellow Jackets distinguished themselves in individual events, most notably Ava Shook, who won the 400-meter dash, Savannah Burch, winner of the 800-meter run, and Eli Cheeks, who won the blue ribbon in the 800-meter boys event in 2:13.01.
Hayesville’s relay teams also performed like champs. The girls 4x400 and 4x800 teams topped the field, while the boys 4x800 relay quartet also won.
Hayesville also had a number of runner-ups: Khylei Alberta in the 300-meter hurdles; E.J. Mapasua in shot put; Libbie Moore in the 400-meter dash; Elio Murrilo in the 100-meter dash; Mason Ray in the 200-meter dash; Josue Salas in the 800-meter run; and Landon Trout in the discus.
The boys 4x200-meter relay team also finished second.
Hayesville hosted a home meet on Tuesday.
