The male and female Yellow Jackets left their competitors in the dust during a six-team track and field meet in Hayesville last Wednesday.
Yellow Jackets Jack Dorsey, 110-meter, 300-meter hurdles; Brett Hanna, 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and Ava Shook, 400-meter dash, high jump, won two individual events apiece.
Hayesville’s boys won 11 events and racked up 152 points to easily out distance runner-up Andrews, 103, and also Cherokee, 61, Highlands, 5, Summit Charter, 2, and Tri-County Early College, 1.
The Yellow Jacket guys also finished first in the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x800 meter relay.
The lady Yellow Jackets won three relays and dominated the 300 meter hurdles and 400 meter dash to top Andrews, 108-100. Cherokee was third with 35 points; Highlands scored 34; Summit Charter, 22 and Tri-County Early College, 21.
The Clay County gals smoked everyone in the 4x200 meter relay, 1:56.61; 4x400 meter relay, 4:32.42 and 4x800 meter relay, 11:17.55.
Marlo Joyce won the 300-meter hurdles in :56.51 and teammates Khylei Alberta, runner-up, and Eva Jones, fifth, also scored for Hayesville.
Shook set the pace in the 400-meter dash leading Libbie Moore, fourth, and Bella Costa, fifth.
The men’s 300 hurdles provided one of the most exciting moments. Dorsey’s winning time of :47.09 was just :00.14 better than Daxton Bruggers’ time.
Hayesville also had blue-ribbon performances from Savannah Burch, 800-meter run; Noah Carter, 1600-meter run; Eli Cheeks, 800-meter run; Porter Hood, 3200-meter run; Marlo Joyce, 300-meter hurdles; E.J. Mapasua, shot put; Elio Murillo in the 200-meter dash and Landon Trout, discus.
The Jackets’ point totals were bolstered by:
• Khylei Alberta, second - 100-meter hurdles and second - 300-meter hurdles.
• Ethan Beechum, third - 200-meter dash and fourth - 100-meter dash.
• Jasmine Brooks, second - discus and second - shot put.
• Gage Brown, fourth - 800-meter run.
• Daxton Bruggers, second - 110-meter hurdles and second - 300-meter hurdles.
• LaRiyah Carr, third - 100-meter dash and fourth - 200-meter dash.
• Eli Cheeks, third - triple jump.
• Peyton Cordell, fifth - 400-meter dash.
• Bella Costa, fifth - 400-meter dash.
• Jameson Dawson, third - high jump; fifth - long jump and fifth - triple jump.
• Porter Hood, fourth - 1600-meter run.
• Eva Jones, fifth - 100-meter hurdles and fifth - 300-meter hurdles.
• Skylar Lockaby, fifth - 200-meter dash and sixth - 100-meter dash.
