Jackets unsuccessful in Andrews

The Yellow Jackets swarmed into Andrews Friday, March 19 for a showdown on the gridiron. It was apparent early that the Wildcats had no intention of allowing Hayesville to return home with a victory.

In less than two minutes after kickoff, Andrews had found the end zone to take a 6-0 lead. Their 2-point conversion attempt was no good which limited the damage. That score held until the Wildcats’ offense struck again in the second quarter. A touchdown plus a 2-point conversion made the score 14-0 in Andrews’ favor.

Hayesville got on the board before the halftime break when senior Blake McClure pounded across the line for a touchdown. Isaac Chandler nailed the PAT to cut the deficit to 14-7.  Just when it looked like the Jackets had momentum, Andrews put another 6 points on the board and led 20-7 at halftime.

The  Wildcats were the only team to find the scoreboard in the third quarter. After a touchdown, Andrews converted a 2-point conversion to build their lead to 28-7.

In the fourth, the Jackets struck early in the quarter when McClure again landed in the end zone. Andrews answered with a touchdown of their own and with 8:36 left in the game, Hayesville trailed 34-14.

The Wildcats stretched the gap further with a touchdown at the 2:28 mark. In the final scoring play of the game, Taylor McClure gave the Jackets 6 points with a touchdown run. The 40-20 score held through the final horn.

On Friday, March 26 Hayesville will head to Cherokee for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Braves. The Jackets will be looking for their first win while the Braves have a win over Rosman.
