Hayesville’s JV boys weren’t as sharp as they usually are on offense but the Yellow Jackets found a way take down Swain, 40-35, in Bryson City last Tuesday.

“We struggled to find anything offensively against Swain but these guys are grinding wins out on bad shooting nights,” Hayesville Coach Josh Cottrell stated.

Donovin Soto drained three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points.

Shaheen dropped in 6 points, while Micah Moss kicked in 5 points and four offensive rebounds. Carter Whitfield also put in 5. Mapusua totaled 4, while Byron Engleman had 2.

Cherokee 61, Hayesville 40

Hayesville never recovered from a slow start Friday against undefeated Cherokee.

The Braves dominated to the tune of 29-13 in the first half as the Yellow Jackets sputtered with 18 turnovers. Hayesville finished with 32 errors.

“We just couldn’t find any rhythm,” Cottrell remarked. “They shot it well and we couldn’t get going. Tough night but a few guys stepped up and played well.”

Shaheen paced Hayesville with 10 points. Damien Soto and Wes Jennings contributed 9 apiece.

Donovin Soto added 5, Moss tallied 4 and Mapusua had 3.
