Hayesville’s JV girls went didn’t score a single point in the second quarter and failed to make a free throw in the game and still handily beat Andrews, 37-19, in Smoky Mountain Conference play last week.

The Lady Jackets zipped to a 12-1 first quarter lead before they stepped into a walk-in cooler and Murphy made it a 12-8 game at the intermission.

“We kind of slacked off. It was like, ‘We’re leading 12-1, nothing to worry about,’” remarked Hayesville Coach Meghan McQuade-Taylor.

McQuade-Taylor addressed the laissez-faire attitude at halftime.

“We knew what we needed to do,” McQuade-Taylor said. “We came out hot in the third quarter and shot the ball well in the second half.”

Aaliyah Jackson and Micalynn McClure were at the heart of the attack. McClure smoked Andrews for 17 points – 8 in the third quarter — and Jackson handed out 7 dimes and put in 3 points as Hayesville ran away with the game.

Ava Moore contributed 6 points, while Kadence Morrow tossed in 15, Breanna Patterson scored 4 and Kara Bauer had a bucket.

Murphy 44,

Hayesville 28

Hayesville drew a blank from 3-point range as Murphy led all the way in collecting the SMC victory.

Morrow dropped 10 on the Lady Bulldogs. Olivia Free tallied 5, Moore went for 4, Jasmine Brooks scored 3, McClure had 2 and Patterson 1.
