This year the Hayesville JV Volleyball team set out on a mission and on Wednesday, Oct. 18 they finished the mission.

These young ladies went 16-2 in overall this season and 10-0 in Smoky Mountain Conference. After a bye in the first round, they were two games from finishing what they had their eyes and heart set on.

On Saturday, Oct. 14  they beat Murphy 2-1 in the second round of tournament. This win secured them a spot in the championship. They would face off against Cherokee.

Game one Hayesville set the tone and never looked back, beating Cherokee 25-13. The second game, the Lady Jackets found themselves down 8-3.

Coach Tammy Dills called timeout to get her team back in focus. The Lady Jackets made their push and ended up going ahead but Cherokee refused to give up. Both teams were sharing ties back and forth. Hayesville went up 24-23 serving for the win. Both teams vollied back and forth until Cherokee tied it up. They go on to go up by 1 making the score 25-24 serving for the win of the set to stay alive and declare a third set.

Dills calls her last timeout. She told them, "We came to win and finish what we started,  let's refuse to go a third set, so everyone put your piece of our teams puzzle in this huddle and let's finish this game."

Dills, went on to say, "Each player has held a puzzle piece of the team dynamics throughout the season, whether it was on the bench cheering, going in and serving, playing front row or playing every rotation, everything was needed."

Hayesville sides out and ties the game back up 25 all.

Both teams rally but Cherokee hits long for a Hayesville point. We are now serving for the win.

Both teams again go back and forth, Kayla Brown brings Hayesville fans to their feet as she stops a possible Cherokee point by sending the ball to the back row with a game winning block. Game two finishes 27-25 to give Hayesville the SMC Tournament Championship for the second season in a row and 24-0 in SMC Tournament play for last two season. These great stats would give the program an impressive two year 36-5 overall record.
