Spring Break came at the perfect time for Hayesville’s inexperienced and short-handed softball team.
Last week, the Lady Jackets took a welcome break from a season of challenges after being roughed up by Swain County and Murphy, the two best teams in the Smoky Mountain Conference.
Coach Marissa Peck’s girls hope to be doing the roughing when the Lady Yellow Jackets return to the diamond with road games against two conference foes with losing win/loss records next week.
Hayesville, 1-8 overall and 1-6 conference, looks to get healthy against Hiwassee Dam, 3-6 overall and 3-5 conference, on Tuesday and Smoky Mountain, 2-9 overall and 2-3 conference, on Wednesday. Friday, Hiwassee Dam comes to Hayesville for a rematch.
Expect the Lady Jackets to show more offense and better defense than they did in an 18-0, three-inning loss to Murphy on Tuesday and a 10-0 defeat at the paws of the Lady Bulldogs the following day.
