Following a win over Nantahala to start the season, the Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team has found itself in a bit of a skid. Hayesville dropped the next two games, but evened their record with a win over Andrews. However last week the Lady Jackets found themselves on the losing end of three games against conference opponents.
On Tuesday, Jan. 19 Hayesville hosted the Lady Braves from Cherokee. The visitors doubled-up the home team 16-8 in the first quarter and by halftime, the Lady Jackets were down 31-19. In the second half, the Lady Braves did just enough to keep their lead safe on their way to the 57-38 win.
Hayesville then travelled to Robbinsville Wednesday, Jan. 20 for a make-up game that had been postponed due to COVID tracing. The Lady Black Knights’ press gave Hayesville fits and by the end of the opening stanza Robbinsville led 20-3. The quarter set the tone for the rest of the game as the Lady Jackets were ice cold on offense, losing 65-15.
Looking to stop the losing streak, Hayesville made the long journey to Rosman Friday, Jan. 22. The Lady Jackets put together a solid offensive first quarter with 10 points. Hayesville’s defense was again the area of concern as the Lady Tigers finished the stanza with 19 points. A low-scoring second quarter made the score 28-15 in Rosman’s favor at the break.
Quarter number three was a 6-6 draw and Hayesville won the fourth quarter 14-10, but the early deficit was too much to overcome and the Lady Jackets fell 44-35.
Hayesville will travel to Cherokee County Friday, Jan. 29 to face Hiwassee Dam. On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Lady Jackets will be in The Hive to take on Robbinsville. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and can be seen on the “Clay County Schools” YouTube channel.
