The Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team from Hayesville Middle School opened the 2020 portion of their schedule with a home game against Towns County Wednesday, Jan. 8. Hayesville established dominance early in the game and held on to the lead through four quarters to pick up the 52-29 win.

Getting off to a strong start is the plan for every team and the Lady Jackets were able to execute that plan with 19 points in the first quarter. On the other end of the floor, Hayesville’s defensive play was also strong, holding the Lady Indians to just 6 points.

Quarter number two saw the lopsided performances continue. The Lady Jackets continued to find holes in Towns County’s defense and improved their score with 11 points. For the Lady Indians, scoring struggles continued which meant Hayesville headed into the halftime break up 30-10.

Refusing to be complacent, the Lady Jackets continued to fire shots at the basket in the third quarter. Hayesville’s effort was rewarded with an additional 14 points before the stanza came to a close. Towns County managed to increase their production, but 8 points allowed the Lady Jackets to extend their lead to 44-18 going into the fourth.

The Lady Indians saved their biggest challenge for the lead until the fourth quarter. Towns County put a game-high 11 points on the scoreboard, but the hole they were in was too big to dig out of and Hayesville went on to get the 52-29 victory.
