With the regular season winding down, the varsity volleyball team from Hayesville High faced a pair of opponents, looking to improve their record. On Tuesday, Oct. 8 the Lady Yellow Jackets swarmed into Swain County to face the Lady Devils. Swain managed to win the marathon, five-set match 3-2. On Thursday, Oct. 10, Hayesville had better luck, getting the 3-0 win over Hiwassee Dam in The Hive.
In Bryson City, Swain County managed to pick up the first-set win in a 25-18 affair but the Lady Jackets weren’t done fighting. Hayesville rallied back to even the match 1-1 with a 25-22 victory in set tw0. Momentum stayed with the Lady Jackets in set three and a 26-24 set-win pushed Hayesville ahead 2-1. Set four went to the Lady Devils by the final of 25-23. With four sets being so heavily contested, most figured the fifth set would be an epic battle. Unfortunately for Hayesville, it was anything but. The Lady Jackets struggled, losing the set 15-5 and the match 3-2.
The Lady Jackets were able to put the heartbreak behind them against Hiwassee Dam. The match opened with Hayesville grabbing a win in set one by the final of 25-11. Set two wasn’t even close as the Lady Jackets were victorious, 25-4. The home team finished the sweep with a 25-15 win in set three.
Hayesville will finish out the regular season at home Thursday, Oct. 17 against Cherokee.Seniors will be honored before the match and play is scheduled for 6 p.m.
