The varsity Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball squad opened their season Monday, Aug. 16 by hosting Highlands. It wasn't the start to the season Hayesville was hoping for as they lost 3-0.
Highlands established momentum early on and parlayed that into a 25-19 win in the opening set. In set two, the Lady Jackets were able to stay closer to their opponent, but fell into a 2-0 hole thanks to a 25-21 loss.
Smelling victory, the Lady Highlanders came out strong in the third set and made fairly quick work of Hayesville, winning the set 25-15 to grab the 3-0 sweep.
"We just didn't play good," said head coach Tammy Dills.
Things went better for the JV squad as the Lady Jackets took care of Highlands in two sets; 25-11 and 25-23
Hayesville's has a chance at redemption today, Tuesday, Aug. 17 when they take on Smoky Mountain in The Hive.
Update: Due to flooding in Smoky Mountain, today's games have been postponed.
