The Lady Yellow Jackets won their first match to start the 2022 season 1-0 against Tuscola High School, of Waynesville, on Monday, Aug. 15.
After a lot of back and forth in the first set, Tuscola started to pull away with a 13-8 lead in the first set. Down 13-8 in the first set, the Lady Yellow Jackets battled back with four straight points cutting Tuscola’s lead back down to 1. Midway through the first set, the Jackets knotted things up at 14 apiece.
Following a Tuscola timeout, the Jackets took a 15-14 lead in the first set, but Tuscola answered back with a run of their own taking a 24-23 lead of the Jackets. Hayesville High School Head Volleyball Coach Tammy Dills called a timeout.
Down 24-23, Dills rallied her girls and after the timeout the Jackets scored the next three points winning the first set 26-24.
Tuscola started things off fast in the second set with a 10-5 lead over the Jackets. Hayesville answered back cutting the lead down to 3 (10-7). Tuscola proved to be too much for the Jackets in the second set handing them a 25-22 loss.
After dropping the second set, the Jackets went on a 12-2 run in the third match. The Jackets proved to be too much to handle in the third set defeating Tuscola 25-9 and taking a 2-1 set lead over the Lady Mountaineers.
Following a dominate performance in the third set, the Jackets took a 8-2 lead over Tuscola in the fourth set. Midway through the fourth set the Jackets took a 16-7 lead and never looked back defeating the Mountaineers 25-12.
The Hayesville High School Volleyball team started their season opener with a win at home defeating Tuscola three sets to one on Monday.
The Lady Yellow Jackets hosted Smoky Mountain High School from Sylva on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at home.
Following their match against Smoky Mountain High School, Hayesville looks to take on the Lady Panthers at Franklin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18.
